The Bassa Bergamasca (lower Bergamo plain area), historically a borderland, has been a strategic region facing Brescia to the east, Cremona to the south, and the Duchy of Milan to the west. This positioning led to the construction of numerous fortifications throughout the Middle Ages by feudal lords and the Republic of Venice. Consequently, the area is dotted with well-preserved medieval castles. Beyond its historical significance, the region is also known for its lush landscapes, offering a picturesque backdrop of green fields, serene waterways, and charming villages.
Embarking on a bike tour through this beautiful region is an excellent way to immerse yourself in both its rich history and natural beauty. The tour spans 51 kilometers, beginning and ending in Romano di Lombardia, and takes approximately three hours to complete without breaks. Ideal for mountain, gravel, and touring bikes with wide, reinforced tires, the route features both paved and unpaved paths. However, for those with little time or an untrained leg, it is worth visiting each place individually as well.
