Laghi Gemelli
Laghi Gemelli is one of the most beloved mountain destinations in the Bergamo Alps. The hike to these twin lakes starts from Carona, a charming village that sits on the shore of an artificial lake. The trailhead is accessible from Carona’s main parking area, where you’ll begin your ascent on the well-marked trail number 211.
The initial part of the hike is shaded, providing a cool respite during warmer months. As you climb, you’ll encounter an intersection with trail 213, leading to Rifugio Calvi. Stay on trail 211, and you’ll soon reach the Lago Marcio. Despite its unappealing name, this lake is a hidden gem. Continuing along the trail, you’ll pass Lago delle Casere before the final ascent to Rifugio Laghi Gemelli.
Upon reaching Rifugio Laghi Gemelli, you’ll be greeted with stunning views of the twin lakes, nestled amidst rugged peaks. This mountain hut offers a perfect spot to rest, enjoy local dishes, and soak in the alpine scenery. The hike typically takes around three hours each way, with a moderate difficulty level suitable for hikers with some experience.
Lago Barbellino
Lago Barbellino is another spectacular alpine lake, situated in the high Val Seriana region. To reach this lake, start your journey from the village of Valbondione. The trailhead begins at the local parking area, where you’ll embark on the scenic path marked as trail 305.
The hike starts with a forested section, gradually opening up to reveal panoramic views of the Serio Valley. As you ascend, the path becomes steeper and more exposed, so sun protection is advisable. After a series of switchbacks, you’ll encounter trail 306, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. This section of the trail leads directly to Rifugio Curò.
Located near artificial Lago Barbellino, Rifugio Curò is an excellent spot to relax and refuel. From here, you can enjoy the turquoise waters of the lake or explore further by taking trail 324, which leads to the natural Lago Barbellino. The entire hike takes about three hours each way, with a significant elevation gain, making it more suitable for seasoned hikers.

Lago Nero

The trail ascends through a mix of forested areas and exposed sections alongside the water conduits. After passing some electricity buildings and climbing higher, you’ll reach Capanna Lago Nero, a small mountain hut offering basic amenities and stunning views of the lake.
From Capanna Lago Nero, a short, mostly flat walk brings you to the dark waters of Lago Nero, aptly named for its deep, reflective surface.
